Lead Designer

Remote

Gantry is building infrastructure and developer tools to help machine learning teams turn their projects into production-grade machine learning systems. We offer an Evaluation Store, a single source of truth for model performance metrics. Our tool helps machine learning teams understand the performance of their models in production and make operational decisions like whether to deploy, when to retrain, and what data to label and retrain on.

Gantry was founded by Josh Tobin, former OpenAI researcher and co-creator of Full Stack Deep Learning, and Vicki Cheung, former founding engineer at OpenAI and Compute team lead at Lyft. Gantry is well-funded and backed by top-tier venture capital firms and angel investors including Pieter Abbeel and Greg Brockman.

We value diversity and encourage candidates from underrepresented groups to apply.

We are hiring a lead designer for our core product. You will own the user experience of our web UI. Some of the most challenging problems you’ll work in include designing data visualizations to help ML engineers make sense of their high-dimensional, unstructured data, creating workflow abstractions that remove friction from common machine learning tasks like modifying datasets, defining metrics, and labeling data, and developing an experience that serves the needs of multiple stakeholders (ML engineers, data scientists, PMs, ML leadership).

What you'll do

  • Own the UI/UX of our web dashboard, from user research to launch
  • Work with our product team to understand customer needs and translate them to user experience
  • Work with our data visualization team to design visualizations for various data types to help ML practitioners slice and dice their data
  • Collaborate with our engineering team to deliver experiences that delight our customers

You may be a good fit if you

  • Are excited to help to accelerate the ability of companies to deploy machine learning as part of their core products and services
  • Have a strong foundation in visual design, typography, and interaction design
  • Want to have a large impact as an early member of the team
  • Enjoy doing user research and prototyping
  • We’re particularly excited to meet candidates who have experience or interest in: Data visualization, Designing developer, data scientist, or data analyst-facing applications
Most of the team is based in San Francisco, but we are building a remote-friendly company and welcome applicants from anywhere in the US. We value diversity and especially encourage candidates from underrepresented groups to apply. We offer competitive salary, a significant equity stake in the company, and full benefits
